 Weather

Lisbon has an Atlantic climate, with some Mediterranean influences. Due to this characteristics, the thermal amplitude is rarely high, with lots of sunny days even during the winter. The weather in September is usually mild, with temperatures around 20 C.

 Language

The spoken language in Portugal is Portuguese. Most of the people, especially the younger, are able to speak/understand English and French.



 Car Hire

Most of the major car hire companies such as Hertz and Avis have offices at the airport inside the International Terminal. To rent a car in Portugal you must have an international driving licence (unless you hold a licence from an EU member state). Drivers must be over the age of 21 and have held their licence for at least one year. More information here.



 Currency

The basic currency unit in Portugal is the Euro (EUR), which is divided into 100 eurocents. The smallest coin in circulation is 1 cent, and the largest bank note in circulation is 100 EUR (bank notes of 200 and 500 EUR have limited circulation).



 Credit Cards

Major credit cards (Visa, MasterCard, American Express, Dinners) are accepted in stores and restaurants.



 Electricity

Mains supply voltage in Portugal is 240 V - 50 Hz.

Closed on Saturdays, Sundays and Public holidays.



 Post Office

Opening Hours: Mondays to Fridays 8:30 to 6:30 PM.
Closed Saturdays and Sundays.
Opened Saturdays in Restauradores and Airport.

 Pharmacies

The sign for a pharmacy is a green cross on a white background. Each pharmacy displays a card in the window showing the address of the nearest all-night pharmacy and a list of those that are open until late (10:00 PM).

Mondays to Fridays 9:00 AM to 1:00 PM and 3:00 PM to 7:00 PM Saturdays 9:00 AM to 1:00 PM. Closed Sundays.
