Description

The work to be undertaken is concerned with the performance analysis of very high-capacity optical transmission systems based on dense wavelength division multiplexing (DWDM) systems.

The objectives of the project are:


        1. Investigation of advanced signalling formats for UDWDM systems, namely

»» new signalling formats

»» optically filtered SSB signalling formats

»» DPSK-related signalling formats

 

       2. Investigation of nonlinear fibre limitations in DWDM systems, namely

»» impact of cross-phase modulation, four-wave mixing and stimulated Raman scattering on DWDM transmission systems performance

»» development of tool for assessment of nonlinear fibre limitations in DWDM systems
