Abstract
Finding the location of a transmitting station is a classic problem
of electromagnetism. The algorithms employed for its solution depend on
the final use of the location information and the propagation characteristics.
In GSM, the problem of location finding for network management and planning
is of particular interest. A common application is finding the location
of "Hot spots". For that purpose, it is proposed to use Mobile Station
measurement reports. Several algorithms are considered for handling the
received data: path search, data smoothing and position smoothing. All
algorithms tend to perform better close to a base station, in a good coverage
area.
