SWG 2.1- Directional Channel Models
(Chairman: Mr. Martin Steinbauer, Tech. Univ. Vienna,A)

This Sub-Task deals with concepts and actual models for characterisation of the wideband, time-variant directional radio channel. The group is thus directly related to WG2 (Propagation Aspects) where it is originating, but with liaisons to other working groups. These liaisons shall ensure that the model meets the requirements posed on it by system and network simulation experts.

The aim is to propose a common model for realistic channel characterization apt to system design, simulation and testing while being as simple as possible. This is necessary to overcome the constraints of the COST207 channel model but reach a comparable popularity.

Candidate systems to use such a model are UMTS and HIPERLAN. Thus, various frequency bands (2GHz, 5GHz, 20GHz) and environments (outdoor macrocells, microcells, indoor picocells) are considered. Further aspects to be considered are dynamic evolution of paths, polarization dispersion, and instationarities.
